I happened upon Tuba Skinny and Erika L buskin’ in New Orleans on YouTube! I have Loved them ever since and play their albums daily! As a musician and band member in Canada, I can say that Tuba Skinny and their soulful renditions touched my soul in ways that have uplifted my life. We in the “great White North” can only dream of making New Orleans jazz like T S. Long Live Tuba Skinny and may their music become world wide for the enjoyment of all!!

Formed in in 2009, Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street musicians into a solid ensemble dedicated to bringing the traditional New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences—from spirituals to Depression-era blues, from ragtime to traditional jazz—their sound evokes the rich musical heritage of their New Orleans home. The band has gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs, and their barnstorming live performances.

Since visiting New Orleans in March 2005, I'm constantly on the lookout for recordings to bring back the sound of jazz, traditional in style but contemporary in performance. Most recordings, new and old, are somehow over-polished and lack the nerve and heat of a tight band of super-skilled musicians hitting it off together in their love of the original cross-cultural musical bullseye that is New Orleans jazz. This is the best recording I've found so far that really brings that feeling across.
